Curriculum Intent

Our curriculum provides students with the knowledge, skills, and experiences to develop their character and resilience. Our curriculum enables our students to realise their varied and ambitious aspirations.

Our curriculum ensures that we are ‘Enriching Lives’ for all our students throughout their journey from Year 7, to adults who contribute positively within our rich and diverse society.

Our curriculum is planned with the intention of enabling the best outcomes for all students no matter their starting points or barriers to learning. We pride ourselves on our broad, balanced, inclusive, and representative curriculum.

Our curriculum vision is modelled in the Drama Curriculum where we believe in an inclusive education for all.

Our curriculum intent is:

  • Our curriculum is coherently planed and sequenced to develop students’ skills and meet the needs of all students.
  • Offer a breadth of activities at KS3 that is sequential in leading to study GCSE Drama at KS4; all students will be stretched and challenged over 5 years, considering different starting points.
  • Develop effective literacy and numeracy skills through the use of digital technology, creating learners who are confident and competent readers, writers and speakers, with essential analytical skills needed for subject success and future life.
  • Embed a range of wider opportunities and experiences for all, to ensure our learners have an educational experience that is rich and varied.
  • Encompass the whole school core values through the Drama curriculum.

As a result the Drama curriculum will:

  • Develop and improve confidence within Drama. Ensure pupils are challenged no matter what their starting point by developing their leadership, organisation, resilience, initiative, and communication skills and enhancing this by giving them varied opportunities to participate in extra-curricular drama activities.
  • The drama curriculum will allow students to develop their skills in our three core areas of creating, performing, and evaluating. The curriculum will ensure students have the opportunity to revisit these skills and deepen their knowledge and understanding.
  • Enable students to discover and develop other skills such as collaboration, teamwork and problem-solving skills whilst building self-confidence and determination to support them in all aspects of life.
  • Students will develop the whole school core values through the drama curriculum by building their character, resilience, and aspiration through schemes of work which ignite their engagement with topics that matter to them and encourage them to make guided choices which develop them and others around them.
  • Through the drama curriculum students have the opportunity to develop their cultural capital as we give them experiences which can enrich their lives. For example, theatre trips, performances opportunities, workshops with professional practitioners and university trips.
